Do Aliens Exist?
I was recently posed with the question, “Do you believe in aliens?”
The person I was talking to tentatively believed they existed largely due to the new unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) which have been peppering the news and social media outlets more frequently as of late. They also pointed out the additional UAP sightings from military pilots on infrared radar and the generalized ever-expanding vastness of space would support extraterrestrial life as well.
Since this discussion, I have been contemplating that question more, and I think I have officially came to a conclusion now: Maybe they exist, but I’m highly doubtful and I don’t really care.
I shall elaborate.
From what I’ve read, the odds of life existing on Earth are incredibly slim. According to Eric Metaxas in his books Miracles and Is Atheism Dead?, he explains that if Earth were any closer to or further away from the sun, we would all die from being too hot or too cold. If our atmosphere were any different, life wouldn’t be able to exist. If Earth’s moon wasn’t at it’s current size or location, life would stop existing as well. If water sank rather than floating when it freezes, which is the opposite response of most liquids, life wouldn’t exist. If Jupiter and Saturn weren’t as big as they are or at their respective locations within our solar system to act as linebackers toward asteroids and meteorites that would otherwise hit Earth, life wouldn’t exist.
Hugh Ross says, “less than 1 chance in 10^282 (million trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion) exists that even one such life-support body would occur anywhere in the universe without invoking divine miracles.”
As for the radar and UAP things, it seems like most of the UAP on infrared radar are largely 1) always over bodies of water and 2) always super low quality and grainy. This is rather curious to me, especially since we’re somehow able to have high-resolution photos from a rover on Mars and have high-resolution live video feeds from drones and such, but somehow still can’t get a decent image of a large object within striking distance of an aircraft. Oh, and radar spoofing also seems to be a possible logical explanation as well.
Spoofing aside, based on current evidence, it just seems unlikely to me that life exists outside of Earth, especially considering how unlikely life (not to mention intelligent life) was to exist here in the first place. This discussion of how fine-tuned Earth is to support life does seem to supply a strong argument for an intelligent Creator, though.
