Thoughts on President Biden’s Abortion Policy Reversal
President Biden plans to revoke the Mexico City policy in order to protect women’s health and to further gender equality. This sounds wonderful, but I have a few thoughts…because it’s not wonderful.
Dr. Anthony Fauci made an announcement stating that the Biden administration will be revoking the Mexico City policy in the near future to further advance women’s health and gender equality both within the United States and abroad.
For those of you unaware, the short version is the Mexico City policy was enacted to bar non-government organizations from using United States taxpayer funds to cover abortion costs in other countries. Under the Trump administration, the Mexico City policy was expanded and cut off sending United States taxpayer money from not only not funding abortions overseas generally but also restricting funding for other non-governmental organizations that provided abortions or abortion counseling as part of international “aid” missions.
Additionally, President Biden plans to reverse another Trump-era ban on abortion providers and organizations receiving Title X funds, which prevented United States taxpayer dollars from funding abortions within the U.S.
As I currently understand it, President Biden’s reversal of both of these policies will mean that United States taxpayer money will pay for abortions within the United States and outside of the United States as well. But don’t take my word for it, read the details for yourself here from The Daily Wire.
Here’s my concern: Reversing these policies won’t further women’s health or gender equality at all. I think it’ll actually just end the lives of a bunch of unborn humans, many of which will be unborn women, and it’ll be your taxes and my taxes paying for it.
For a reportedly devout Catholic who happened to be refused communion at church because of his radical position on abortion who also claims to be pro-women and pro-equality, these policy reversals seem to be a little counterintuitive and massively counterproductive.
Thought #1: This seems to be blatantly anti-science.
From my understanding of science and such, new humans begin at conception. Even if life began at some point later than conception, which it doesn’t, conception is still the only logical and consistent point from which to state life begins.
If human life were determined by viability, sentience, consciousness, the mother’s opinion, standardized physical ability, or financial ability, then things would quickly devolve to the worst kind of eugenics and we would have many fewer people in the world, the vast majority of which would’ve been killed unnecessarily. Really, these kinds of shifts in what is defined as “life” are what initially led Denmark, Iceland, Germany, France, Belgium, England, and Switzerland to legitimately eradicate nearly 100% of babies with Down syndrome.
Thought #2: This seems to be against human equality.
I have it on good authority from Everyday Feminism and people on various social media platforms that sex and gender are ever-changing fluid concepts, that anyone and everyone can be and are both genders, both sexes, neither, and any number of infinite places in between, even if they don’t know it. So, the Biden administration boasting this as forwarding women’s rights and advancing gender equality makes it sounds a little cis-normative and sexist.
While I wholeheartedly disagree with Everyday Feminism and similar people on the various social media platforms, they’re right; it is cis-normative and sexist, so let’s shift the titles of “women’s rights” and “gender equality” to “human rights” and “human equality.” That sounds more accurate and accepting.
I’m absolutely in favor of human equality. I think everyone should have equal rights to life, liberty, and freedom…including the unborn since they’re living humans from the point of conception.
Conclusion:
The Biden administration’s reversal of these policies, by definition, are blatantly against human equality.
Bonus content:
I have been repeatedly informed that because I’m a male, because I don’t have a female reproductive system (because I’m a male), and because I’m not paying for the abortions, that means my opinion doesn’t count and I ought to keep my thoughts to myself.
To those people, I say this: Firstly, you assuming I’m a male based on my appearance and secondary sex characteristics is very cis-normative and bigoted of you, by your own standards. According to Everyday Feminism, not all women have female reproductive systems. Secondly, since my taxes will be paying for this, I do have a right to be concerned. And thirdly, because I’m not a science denier and am in favor of human equality, I am absolutely concerned about these policy reversals.
